2017 Museum Openings

August 2 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 1:00pm on Sunday and Wednesday, repeating until October 8, 2017

“More Vintage Views of Brooklyn”

“More Vintage Views of Brooklyn” is an exhibit of 19th and 20th century postcard and album photographs which take visitors on a journey to Brooklyn’s past, a time of tree-shaded, unpaved roads, an imposing country inn that became a summer residence for a President’s widow, and a stately church destroyed by the hurricane of 1938.

Also on display are the permanent exhibits of the General Putnam Gallery.  Important 2016 additions to the Putnam Gallery are the  original 1888 Karl Gerhardt designed wolf heads which were stolen from the equestrian statue in 1984 and 1985 and returned to the society in 2015.

The handicapped accessible museum is located at 25 Canterbury Road (Route 169) immediately behind the General Israel Putnam equestrian statue.

The Daniel Putnam Tyler Law Office, located behind the museum building, will also open for the season at this time.  Both museums will be open every Wednesday and Sunday thereafter through Sunday, October 8th and by appointment throughout Walktober 2017.
