Historical Society to Sponsor Women’s History Month Program
On Thursday, March 30th at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 7 Providence Road (Route 6), Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Historical Society will sponsor a program in honor of Women’s History Month entitled “Bridget’s Home.”
Katie M. Hill, accomplished actress, author, and historian of the Irish diaspora, will present a dramatic portrayal inspired by her novel Bridget’s Home. The novel tells the story of Moira and Barnard Culligan who are forced to emigrate from their beloved Ireland after their eviction from an English-owned tenant farm. Their search for a home leads them to New England where they meet the challenges of hard work, illness, and loss set against the backdrop of the bigotry of nativist Yankees who fear the destruction of democracy at the hands of “Papist” Irish newcomers.
After the question-and-answer period following her portrayal, Ms. Hill will have copies of her book available for sale and signing. The program is free and complimentary refreshments will be served following the presentation.
