“Night Fall: Community Puppetry in Hartford”

November 15 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Free admission; donations greatly appreciated

For its second installment in the 2018 Fall Puppet Forum Series, the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry at the University of Connecticut will host Anne Cubberly for Night Fall: Community Puppetry in Hartford on Thursday November 15 at 7 p.m. at the Ballard Institute Theater, located at 1 Royce Circle in Downtown Storrs. This forum will discuss the origins, aims, techniques, and aesthetics of this dynamic community performance event that has redefined the cultural life of Connecticut’s capital.

Over the past seven years, Anne Cubberly’s annual Night Fall performances in Hartford parks have celebrated seasonal change with art, music, dance, and Cubberly’s trademark giant puppets. Cubberly, Night Fall Artistic Director, is a visual artist with more than 30 years of experience. Her work includes kinetic sculpture, giant puppet maker, artist-in-residence experiences, installations, and performance. She has exhibited steadily in solo and group exhibitions, created performances for The Cleveland Museum of Art and The Wadsworth Atheneum. She has lead school and community groups with a focus on creativity, process, and community, all while utilizing repurposed materials.

Admission to this event is free (donations greatly appreciated!), and refreshments will be served. Come early, and experience our puppet exhibitions, as well as the video resources in our library nook. Forums will be broadcast via Facebook Live. For more information or if you require an accommodation to attend a forum, please contact Ballard Institute staff at 860.486.8580 or bimp@uconn.edu.
