Walktober is still going strong with another week full of choices to whet your appetite for fun in The Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor. If you have enjoyed the annual program in its first few weeks, don’t stop now.

You can “Tackle the Trail” on Saturday, October 17, to benefit the Quinebaug Valley Community College Foundation. Individual runners or relay teams will challenge themselves on the Air Line State Park Trail from Pomfret to Willimantic, CT.

If you’re not a runner, Thompson is the place to be for a 2-in-1 deal at Tourtellotte Memorial High School. The Alumni Association is holding a craft sale and the Historical Society will take you on a breath-taking tour of the “Tourtellotte Memorial Room Museum.” The museum is known as the largest public school museum in the U.S. and you’ll be pleasantly stunned by the collection, the history and the stories.

After a successful debut last year, the “Arts and Eats Stroll in Downtown Romantic Willimantic” returns to take you on a tasty and artsy walk with a vivacious leader who loves her downtown merchants. Pre-registration is required for this one.
Love to walk with your four-legged friends? The “Mansfield PUP Crawl” is barking up the right tree. This educational and fun stroll on Dog Lane takes place rain or shine.

Visit a 3rd generation family farm that started out as a dairy farm, but has been raising Christmas trees since 1976. “How to Grow a Christmas Tree” at Gray Ledge Farm in Plainfield, CT, shares the art of Christmas tree growing. There is a lot more to it than just sticking a seedling into the ground and letting it go for a decade.

The “Trek to the Tri-State Marker” is always popular, and this year you’ll be led by TLGV Rangers Kevin and John. They’ve hiked along many trails and the tri-state marker trek is a favorite. Stand in 3 states at once!

On Sunday, October 18, cyclists with mountain bikes can pedal along the Quinebaug River on a new rail trail in Southbridge, MA. Hikers might enjoy the climb to Wolf Rock in Mansfield, CT, for spectacular autumn views, or the woodland habitat in Colonel Ledyard Park, in Ledyard. Art lovers will enjoy the “Campus Public Art Walk” at Eastern CT State University in Willimantic.

Ring a steeple bell as Westfield Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, celebrates its 300th anniversary on Monday, October 19. You are invited to ring the bell; it will chime a total of 300 times that day!

Libraries are taking part in Walktober this year, and Dudley’s Pearle L. Crawford Library is making a day of it on October 19. The “Library Scavenger Hunt” takes place all afternoon and later on there is “Dinner and a Movie.” This is family Walktober fun!
