Bacteria Monitoring Training Workshop

May 20 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Last Green Valley and the Eastern Connecticut Conservation District will be conducting bacteria sampling at locations throughout eastern Connecticut this summer.

The Last Green Valley Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Program will be collecting weekly water samples from the Willimantic River from Stafford to Windham. The Willimantic River is a National Recreational Trail and popular for paddling enthusiasts. The water samples will be assessed for E. coli to make sure the water is safe for paddling.

The Eastern Connecticut Conservation District will be conducting a bacterial source trackdown survey in the Anguilla Brook watershed in Stonington/North Stonington. Anguilla Brook drains into Wequetequock Cove, where the shellfish beds are closed because of high bacteria loads.

Volunteers will be collecting water samples weekly from June into August (10 samples). Instruction in water sample collection methodologies is required to participate. We will provide the teams with all required equipment for this program.

To register for this workshop, email Jean Pillo at Jean.Pillo@comcast.net or Judy Rondeau at Judy.Rondeau@comcast.net.
