Migration to Massachusetts: Economic Opportunity for Italians in Southbridge, 1910-1945

October 24 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Professor Teresa Fava Thomas of Fitchburg State University will present a program on her research of the Italian community in Southbridge and their prosperity in the early part of 1900s. The presentation will examine the diaspora from Palestrina (Lazio), in central Italy, to Southbridge, Massachusetts, where the economic empowerment of Italian immigrants proceeded faster than in other areas of Massachusetts.

Dr. Thomas is the author of The Reluctant Migrants: Migration from the Veneto to Central Massachusetts 1880-1920. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing, after the event.
