Special Exhibit: “Here It Is.” Justice — Michelle Thomas, Artist.

June 2, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 10:00 am on Sunday, Friday and Saturday, repeating until August 13, 2023

Fri., June 2 – Sun., Aug. 13. To accompany the Mill Museum’s “Here All Along: African Americans in Northeastern Connecticut Before the Great Migration,” we will host a companion exhibit in the same exhibit room featuring the work of noted African American artist Justice — Michele Thomas. Thomas’s work asks hard questions about the African American experience in the present, asking viewers to reflect on contemporary issues. A major purpose of history is to use the past to illuminate the present, and Thomas’s powerful and provocative pieces encourage visitors to make connections and ask questions. At the same time, the Museum will update the “Here All Along” exhibit itself, adding a section that links the experiences of 1688-1910 to the 21st century. (The image to the left is from Thomas’s Artpeace Facebook page, and shows her in her studio.) Dates subject to change.
