The Long Journeys Home: The Repatriation of Henry Opukaha’ia and Albert Afraid of Hawk

September 17 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Nick Bellantoni is Emeritus State Archaeologist at UConn, who will be discussing his new book. The book tells the story of the return of two Native men who died in Connecticut during the 19th-century, and two descendant women that had spiritual visitations regarding their ancestor who wished to come home. As state archaeologist, Bellantoni had the responsibility to disinter their remains and conduct forensic analysis to identify them and prepare them for their journeys to Hawaii and the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
