The Naval/Memorial Day Ceremony

May 27 @ 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm

For decades now, a short but unique event has been held each Memorial Day in Hampton. 12 noon is the time this year when folks will gather on a bridge over the Little River on Hammond Hill Rd. It is an informal ceremony led by a member of the clergy. Our focus is honoring all those in the military who have died at sea in our nation’s history.

For that reason, some call it The Naval Ceremony. It pays tribute to the thousands of men & women who have perished in & on the waters; this includes all 5 branches of the military, as well as the Merchant Marines.

The event is over in less than 1/4 hour & consists of words from the clergy, a gentleman who journeys up from southern Connecticut. A few hymns are usually sung, in a free & joyful manner. Before & after the actual ceremony- folks naturally socialize with one another. Anyone is welcome- in fact, encouraged to attend!
