“We Fight For Roses, Too” Exhibit at Otis Library

March 4 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Otis Library will host the exhibit “We Fight For Roses, Too” in the Millie and Martin Shapiro Community Room. This exhibit, on loan from the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame, is dedicated to the stories, struggles, and achievements of women who have shaped the culture and society of Connecticut and the nation.

The title of the exhibit is from the well-known women’s labor song “Bread and Roses.” Small art and love and beauty their drudging spirits knew. Yes, it is bread we fight for, but we fight for roses, too.

An opening reception will be held on Monday, March 4, at 6pm with a performance of “Aunt Hattie’s House,” a one-woman historical play with accomplished actor, producer and playwright Emma Palzere-Rae. She will portray Harriet Beecher Stowe, the 19th century Connecticut author of the acclaimed novel “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.” This is a free program; refreshment will be provided. Sponsored by The Elsie Brown Fund.
