Workshop with Paradox Teatro

August 20 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Migraciones-Migrations - Water

In conjunction with their performances of Migraciones / Migrations, Paradox Teatro will host a two-hour workshop at the the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 1-3 p.m. All events will take place at the Ballard Institute Theater located at 1 Royce Circle, Storrs, CT 06268.

This workshop will demonstrate techniques and technologies for sand drawing and shadow puppetry on light tables, as well as performance under a camera for large-scale video projection in live performance. The performance techniques taught by Paradox Teatro artists can be applied to a variety of live performance styles, in addition to filmmaking and animation. The workshop begins with a behind-the-scenes demonstration of how the Paradox Teatro artists perform a scene from their multimedia puppetry performance Migraciones / Migrations. Participants will next be guided through creating their own shadow puppet and will gain hands-on experience practicing sand drawings and performing shadow puppets on stage with light tables, cameras, and video projection.

Paradox Teatro will invite each participant to create an elegantly simple one-minute scene on the topic of “There’s No Place Like Home,” utilizing sand drawings and shadow puppetry, accompanied by live music provided by Paradox Teatro.

Spaces for the workshop are limited. All ages are welcome. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is $15/person. To reserve a spot, bimp.ticketleap.com/paradox-workshop/
