Ashford Woods: A Community of People of African and Nipmuc Descent from 1840 – 1870

Join Dr. Nick Bellantoni, State Archaeologist Emeritus on one of the walks featured in his latest book about historic walks in CT. Nick will share his insights about the archaeology features from the Cat Den Quarry to Ashford Woods, the site of the Webster and Bates homesteads and home to at least 5 families and 25 people of African and Nipmuc descent from 1840 – 1870. Nick will be joined by local historian, Donna Dufresne, who will share her research on the community and Charles Webster, whose Civil War grave is on the property. Registration required.
