Forest Management Property Tour – Date Changed to 10/14

 10/14/2023 @ 10:00 am

Tour an 87-acre private property in Putnam, CT with an innovative forest management plan. This is a great opportunity to see an active forest management plan being implemented. This woodlot walk will feature a major thinning and habitat clearing project in a mature pine stand on the property. Of special interest is a 7-acre habitat clearing designed to encourage the scrub/shrub early successional forest that is critical to many species of birds. We will observe a slash wall that has been created around the perimeter that is meant to keep deer off what is anticipated to be a vigorous stump sprout response of the hardwood saplings that were in the understory. Rain cancels. Registration is required by emailing Bill@tlgv.org. Limit of 25 people. Sponsored by TLGV members Scott and Laura Moorehead, the Eastern CT Forest Landowner’s Association (find them on Facebook) and The Last Green Valley, thelastgreenvalley.org
