Youth Theater Workshops 2024

Have you ever thought about joining a community theater? How about directing or writing your own show. Gateway Players is offering you the chance to try out directing, writing, and/or acting at our upcoming youth workshops. You can attend one or all three of these workshops. They are designed for youths ages 8-18. For more information, please call 508-764-4531. Descriptions for each of the workshops are below.

Cost per workshop is $10 when paid in advance by mailing a check to Gateway Players, PO Box 171, Southbridge, MA 01550, or by Venmo to @lou-ellen-corkum. If paying at the door (space available) the cost will be $15.

In May we will give all participants the chance to showcase their skills with our “8 Days to Curtain” performance. You do not have to attend any of the previous workshops in order to participate. More information on this event will be posted in the near future.

Director’s Workshop – Saturday February 17th 10am – noon –Miriam Sas, M.A.T. Southbridge High School Drama teacher, will lead this workshop. This will be designed for youths interested in learning how to direct a stage play. At the end of this workshop each participant will have the opportunity to block a scene and walk the other participants through the scene.

Writer’s Workshop – Saturday March 16th 10am – noon –Mary Darling Maestaz, Playwright/ director/ co-owner of Museful Intent will lead this workshop. – This will be designed for youths interested in learning how to write their own short play (5-10 minutes). At the end of this workshop each participant will have the opportunity to share the play they have each written.

Actor’s Workshop- Saturday April 20th 10am – noon – Pat Haddock and Lou-Ellen Corkum, Gateway Players directors, will lead this workshop. This will be for interested youths to learn various acting techniques such as: auditioning, facial expression, memorization, stage positioning, and other general acting techniques. At the end of this workshop participants will perform a selection from a chosen play.
