Evergreens for the Bridge
December 6 - December 12
Do you have evergreens from which you can cut small branches? Spruces, balsam, fir, hemlock, juniper, pine — all are useful in any combination. From Friday, December 6, to Thursday, December 12, you’re invited to bring your sprays to the Garden on the Bridge in a bag, tied in bunches, or wrapped in a tarp.
Drop them off in the corners to the right and left of the arch whenever it’s convenient. Then on Thursday, Dec 12, 5 pm, we’ll gather at the arch to see what we have and lay the branches flat inside the planters to make a green surface. We’ll fill planters over the river first, then “branch” out as our supply of greenery allows. There will be mulled cider and many thanks.
We especially need berries on their stems: holly berries, of course, but also crab apple branches, sumac, rose hips. Maybe some variegated euonymus. But please, none of the three B’s – barberry, bittersweet, burning bush).
Come by Thursday, December 12, 5 pm.
The work will be quick and easy. It’s gratifying to see the transformation, the planters deserve it – and it’s fun to meet up.
