Healthy Forests = Clean Water:
Practical Info for Forest Land Owners in the Natchaug Watershed

Field Tour, Saturday, June 6th, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, Mansfield, CT
(Rain date Sunday, June 7th, 1-4 pm)

The Natchaug watershed in eastern Connecticut is made up of land and waterways located in the 8 towns of Ashford, Chaplin, Eastford, Mansfield, Union, Willington, Windham and Woodstock. The Fenton, Mount Hope and Natchaug Rivers and their tributaries in these towns flow to the Mansfield Hollow Lake and Willimantic Reservoir, contributing to the largest drinking water watershed in Connecticut.

Healthy forests play a key role in protecting the water quality in local streams, rivers, lakes, and reservoirs as well as our drinking water wells. During the free workshop and field tour, forestry and watershed experts from UConn Extension, CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and Eastern CT Conservation District will share practical information and discuss resources that woodland owners in the Natchaug watershed can use to keep their woodlands healthy and resilient in the face of climate change.

The Workshop on Wednesday, June 3rd from 6:30 – 8:30 pm is offered in-person on the UConn Storrs campus or you can choose the online option. The 3 hour Field Tour on Saturday June 6th from 9 am – 12 noon, (Rain date Sunday, June 7th from 1-4 pm) will take place in-person on a private property in Mansfield Center and highlight forestry practices that protect water quality.
