Lasagna Gardening

July 20 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Lasagna Gardening – also referred to as sheet composting —is an age-old technique of using a no-dig, no-till organic gardening method that results in rich, fluffy soil with very little work from the gardener. Lasagna gardens can be started at any time of year, though Fall is optimum. The name Lasagna Garden refers to the method of building a garden; adding layers of organic materials that will “cook down” over time, resulting in rich, fluffy soil that helps plants thrive. It is great for the environment because one uses yard and kitchen waste to make a new nutrient-rich garden. Jean Vose will lead the program with a slide show presentation. She will cover the pros and cons of this method, how to care for it and her experiences with it. She is certified through the Connecticut Master Gardener Program. She has been a Master Gardener and certified Horticulturist for 30 years, she plans to continue teaching about plants, gardening and insects. This event will take place inside the James L. Goodwin Conservation Center. All are welcome.
