Sturbridge Historical Society Program “A Moral Fire: Lucy Danforth Colman—Abolitionist, Women’s Rights Activist & Free Thinker”

October 22 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

On Thursday, October 22 at 7:00 PM, the Sturbridge Historical Society presents an illustrated talk by local historian Wally Hersee at the Publick House (277 Main St., Sturbridge). The program is free and open to the public.

The talk highlights Sturbridge-born Lucy Danforth Colman, a 19th-century abolitionist, feminist campaigner, educator, and freethinker. Colman worked tirelessly to advance women’s rights and build support for the Thirteenth Amendment abolishing slavery. In her later years, she advocated for freethought, marriage equality, and practical reason over dogma.
