Join us for the 2026 Willimantic Whitewater BioBlitz, October 17–18. A BioBlitz is a community effort to find and document as many living species as possible within a specific place and period of time. Using the free iNaturalist app, we’re inviting the community to explore Willimantic, photograph what you find, and help us build a snapshot of the plants, animals, insects, fungi, and other organisms that share our community. The BioBlitz begins at 12:01 AM Saturday, October 17 and continues through 11:50 PM Sunday, October 18. Get outside anytime during the weekend, use iNaturalist to document what you discover, and add your observations to the Willimantic Whitewater Park Species Data Collection and Willimantic EcoBlitz (06226) projects. Qualifying species observations made during the BioBlitz period will count toward the event. Guided events on Saturday, October 17 include:
– Start Your BioBlitz at Idea Forge Studios (54 North St, Willimantic), 10:00am – 4:00pm
– Guided Bird Walks – Saturday, throughout the day; depart from Willimantic Whitewater Park
– Trees for Communities Planting Launch Ceremony
