Calvin Goddard (1768 – 1842) was a lawyer, judge and Mayor of Norwich during the crucial period following the American Revolution. We will explore the influence of his teachers, religious leaders and friends on his views and activism regarding equal treatment of all races in Connecticut. Goddard was on the defense team for Prudence Crandall and filed pension applications for 19 Black Revolutionary Water Veterans, whose lives and circumstances we will also discuss.
