The Norwichtown Green was the town’s center in the 1770s. Not only was it the business district, but residents of the historic houses around the Green heard the voices of the Norwich patriots as they gathered at the Green to hear the news and respond to the latest British outrage. They watched the militia drill; heard the Sons of Liberty as they gathered to foil the Stamp Act; welcomed Washington, Lafayette and Governor Trumbull as they arrived in town. Tricia Staley, author of Norwich in the American Revolution, will lead the tour and discuss the people and events that made the Norwichtown Green an important part of history for the town, the state and the nation. The tour will leave at 9:30 am from the Joseph Carpenter Silversmith Shop. Sponsored by the Leffingwell House Museum & the Society of the Founders of Norwich, leffingwellhousemuseum.org
