Over the past several decades Connecticut’s deer population has recovered exponentially, and deer browse intensity often negatively affects the regeneration of desirable tree species following forest management. Join Goodwin State Forest CT DEEP Forester Daniel Evans for a guided field tour of an upcoming “slash wall” installation at the James L. Goodwin State Forest. We will visit a planned slash wall site to learn more about the concept of slash walls, how they protect developing regeneration from deer browsing and the expected benefits to developing young forest habitat. This is a two part program with the 2nd part on Saturday, October 24th with a visit to a completed slash wall after four growing years.
