This 0.5 mile section of trail is part of a former railroad line that winds 20.2 miles through the towns of Manchester, Vernon, Bolton, Coventry, Andover, and Columbia. Like a pathway through time, this serpentine path passes among modern subdivisions and crosses roads, but mostly takes the trail user along a remote, quiet and long unused path through the eastern Connecticut countryside.
This short trail segment runs along a portion of the Willimantic River and is great for hiking, biking, pets on a leash, horseback riding and cross country skiing. The Air Line State Park Trail intersects this trail at the Hop River Trailhead, adding to longer trail opportunities.
The Last Green Valley has assessed this trail for people with mobility challenges and has created a summary you can access here Columbia Ave. to Hop River Trailhead.
