Acorn Adventure: Getting Batty
7 pm, July 12
Lyon Preserve,

Bats are one of the most amazing, yet misunderstood creatures living in The Last Green Valley. Bats devour night-flying insects considered pests to us, have great nighttime vision and hunt by echolocation. As the only true flying mammal on earth, bats are a critical part of the ecosystem, but 8 of the 9 bat species in The Last Green Valley are endangered. Kids of all ages can learn more about these amazing creatures through games, crafts and the opportunity to see a real bat, in real life, thanks to licensed wildlife rehabilitator Maureen Heidtmann. Lyon Preserve is also the home to a bat roost and as the sun goes down, we’ll do the important citizen science work of counting the bats as they head out for the night. Lyon Preserve is on Wrights Crossing Road, where the road begins just off Rt. 101. The gps coordinates are 41.85023, –71.93577.
