12/11 Acorn Adventure – Hibernating Habits

When: 10:00 am – Noon

Where: Mansfield Hollow State Park, Bassetts Bridge Road, Mansfield Center, CT, USA

What: Winter is coming and the cold can be serious here in The Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor. Our animal friends can’t come in from the cold and warm up with a cup of hot chocolate, so what do they do? We will take a hike around Mansfield Hollow State Park as we learn about who is hibernating and what that means. We’ll also look for signs of animals who are still active all winter long and talk about how they adapt. Kids will also have a chance to touch the pelts of some of our winter wildlife. Acorn Adventures are always free thanks to the generous sponsorship of Centreville Bank. Call 860-774-3300 or email bill@tlgv.org for more information.

12/21 Winter Solstice Gathering at Pachaug Forest with the Friends of Pachaug Forest

10:00 am – Noon

Where: Directions and additional information will be sent following RSVP. Inclement weather cancels. RSVP required to Bill Reid at 860-774-3300 or bill@tlgv.org

What: Join Chief Ranger Bill Reid and the Friends of Pachaug Forest as we celebrate together the coming of the Winter Solstice at the beautiful Pachaug State Forest in Voluntown. The solstice is exactly at 10:59 am and we’ll gather around a warm campfire to enjoy hot cocoa and cookies, and to read from selected books about winter and the solstice. RSVP required.
