How Clean is the Water in The Last Green Valley? You can help us find out!

TLGV’s water quality monitoring program will be kicking off the fall monitoring season with Riffle Bioassessment training on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 9 AM. We will meet in the lower level of the Brooklyn Cooperative Extension building located at 139 Wolf Den Road, Brooklyn, CT. The program will start with a mandatory indoor training session to overview the protocols used in the field and to introduce the bugs that are indicators of good water quality. We will follow that with hands on field training by assessing a nearby brook.

TLGV will provide all the sampling equipment. We recommend you bring boots for wading in the brook that may be up to knee height and wear mosquito/tick spray. The training will last a little over 3 hours.

To reserve your spot at this training event, please email Jean.Pillo@Comcast.net so we can be sure to prepare an adequate amount of training reference materials.

Riffle Bioassessments are a fun and meaningful way to document high quality water resources in The Last Green Valley. Our data is included in the Integrated Water Quality Report CT DEEP is required to prepare for the US Congress every two years. This is a great opportunity to play in the brook with like-minded people for a noble cause.

Feel free to share this information with anyone you think might be interested in participating.
