July Acorn Adventure (7/24): Bats in The Last Green Valley

Acorn Adventure: Bats in The Last Green Valley
7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Saturday, July 24
Wyndham Land Trust Lyon Preserve, Pomfret, CT

Join TLGV Chief Ranger Bill Reid and Wildlife Biologist Devaughn Fraser, PhD from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection for a fascinating evening learning about bats in The Last Green Valley.

The Lyon Preserve includes an old barn that for several years has been an active bat roost. We’ll learn all about our region’s bat species while assisting Devaughn in counting the bats as they leave the roost to feed (usually just after sunset). Devaughn will also bring highly sensitive recording equipment that is used for recording the bat echolocation calls the animal makes during feeding. With this equipment we’ll try to determine which species of bats are using the roost and other species that may be nearby. Materials on bats in Connecticut will also be provided.

RSVP is required and space is limited. Please contact Bill Reid to RSVP and for more information. Bill can be reached at 860-774-3300 or via email at Bill@tlgv.org. Directions and additional information will be provided following RSVP. Rain Date: Sunday, July 25.
