Join The Last Green Valley to learn more about a new citizen science effort to monitor light pollution. Participants will learn about light pollution and why it is a concern. We will also demonstrate how the data will be collected. After the training, volunteers will have a chance to sign up to be a Night Sky Ranger and be assigned locations and a time frame for data collection. For more information call 860-774-3300 or email

Join The Last Green Valley and Goodwin Forest Naturalist Lena to explore the active winter forest! Some species in the Goodwin Forest woods hibernate but others thrive in the snow and freezing temperatures. We’ll start our adventure indoors examining furs of some of the animals making Goodwin their home. Then, we’ll take to the trails to make some observations of our own! Join Chief Ranger Bill Reid for a walk on the Natchaug Trail to enjoy a beautiful section of the trail and learn about Civil War Veteran General Nathaniel Lyon. We’ll start at the Nathaniel Lyon Memorial Park on Kingsbury Road in Eastford. From there we’ll hike north on the Natchaug trail for just more than 2.5 miles to General Lyon Road and the Phoenixville Cemetery where Lyon is buried. His grave site includes a large monument and Civil War cannons.…
