Spring Outdoors and Discover a Hidden Trail in The Last Green Valley!

The Last Green Valley, Inc. (TLGV) hits the trails in a new week of Spring Outdoors thanks to Joshua’s Trust!  As Joshua’s Trust celebrates its 50th year in 2016, the staff and volunteers are making grand efforts to connect your feet with their trails.  Discover a hidden Joshua’s Trust trail on Saturday, April 9, at 10:30 a.m., with “Two Sisters Tract Welcomes You.”

Chances are that you have driven by this trailhead on Route 6 in Windham but never stopped. Park on the shoulder of Rte. 6, approximately 2.25 miles east of Willimantic’s Walmart store or .8 miles north of the intersection of Rte. 203 and Rte. 6 (between Quintana Memorials & Pleasant View Motel.)

Once you arrive, you will discover a 40-acre forested tract with multiple stone walls, rocky outcrops, and glacial erratics. After a short, moderately steep initial climb, the trail is 1 mile long on gently rolling terrain. Plan on exploring Two Sisters Tract for about 1 ½ hours. Be sure to bring your questions, like why is it named “Two Sisters Tract,” and what is a glacial erratic?

Registration is required by simply calling the Joshua’s Trust Office at 860-429-9023 and leaving a message.

Stay tuned for next week’s Spring Outdoors adventures! Learn about all the adventures in a web-based brochure (that can be downloaded and printed) at www.thelastgreenvalley.org. Spring Outdoors events are listed on TLGV’s Facebook page and website’s event calendar, too. Walks may still be added, so be sure to check in often!

The Last Green Valley is a National Heritage Corridor – the last stretch of dark night sky in the coastal sprawl between Boston and Washington, D.C.  The Last Green Valley works for you in the National Heritage Corridor. We help you to care for it, enjoy it and pass it on!
