Ranger Marcy’s Acorn Adventure
Join Ranger Marcy for a Salamander Search at Mansfield Hollow State Park on Sunday, April 19th, from 1 – 3 pm at Mansfield Hollow State Park off of Bassett Bridge Road, Mansfield.  Sponsored by Putnam Bank!
Will the snow be gone by April 19th for our Salamander Search? If so, we may see (but not disturb) salamanders. Salamanders are hard to see because they spend most of their time in forested areas, living under rocks and fallen logs or in underground burrows. The best time of year to see these creatures is in spring when they move to wet areas to lay their eggs. We’ll follow the Red Trail (.83 miles) in search of salamanders as we come across vernal pools, and peek under rocks & old logs.
Bonus walk available after the Salamander Search for those who want another view! We’ll drive to & park at the public lot on Rte. 6, and follow the flat & paved walkway out to the dam for stunning & panoramic views of the lake. This is an easy 2 ¼ mile walk.
Bring a camera and/or binoculars. Leashed dogs welcome, but please pick up after your dogs. Parking is off of Bassett Bridge Rd.
**Even if there is still snow on the ground, we will hold this adventure! There is a lot of beauty to see here!  Email Marcy or call 860-774-3300 for more information.
