TLGV Member Program – Hampton Day with Goodwin and Teale
Join us for a day of learning and exploring in Hampton on Sunday, May 17. Hampton was home to both James Goodwin and Edwin Way Teale, two important figures in our understanding of nature and the environment. We will travel to Hampton to visit their homes and tour their beautiful properties that are open to the public. Along the way we’ll enjoy a great day in The Last Green Valley as we learn and experience the natural world of Goodwin and Teale. This is a two part program and you can participate in either the morning or afternoon programs or both and make it a full day in Hampton.
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon, Goodwin Forest and Conservation Center
Join us as Naturalist Emma Lorusso leads a forest walk to Governor’s Island on Pine Acres Pond. Along the way Emma will describe the history of the Goodwin State Forest and Conservation Center, the woods around the property as well as a recently created early succession forest habitat. The hike to Governor’s Island on Pine Acres Pond is approximately three miles round trip.
12:00 Noon – 1:15 Lunch
Bring a picnic lunch, or purchase one at the Hampton General Store and we’ll enjoy an outdoor lunch together either at the Goodwin Forest Conservation Center, or at Trail Wood (we’ll decide that day).
1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. CT Audubon at Trail Wood – Edwin Way Teale Memorial Sanctuary
Join us as we enjoy a hike and tour at Edwin and Nellie Teale’s Trail Wood. We’ll hike to the beaver pond and get a tour of Teale’s writing cabin and house study.
RSVP for this program is required and guests are welcome. Please email Bill Reid or call him at 860-774-3300 to reserve your spot for this special day.
Please note that there is no charge for both tours and programs, however, donations to the Goodwin Forest and Conservation Center and the CT Audubon at Trail Wood are always appreciated.
